The Buckingham Football Team, along with family and friends, is hosting a wiffle ball & cornhole tournament in support of Coach Seth Wilkerson. Coach Wilkerson has had ongoing medical issues which has resulted in several hospital stays over the last year. Proceeds from this event will be given to Coach Wilkerson to assist with medical expenses. This event will be held July 21 at Gene Dixon Senior Memorial Park at 10 a.m.

Wiffle ball teams may consist of no more than eight players. six players will be on the field at once — one pitcher, one catcher, two in-fielders and two outfielders. You must register with a team. Teams may be any combination of ages — all ages are welcome. Have fun, be creative, come up with a team name, dress up, or even bring a mascot (no live pets). The cornhole tournament will be held on the tennis court area of the ballpark.

Sprouse’s Corner Ranch, LLC is hosting a Horsemanship II Camp from July 23-27 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. This camp is offered for intermediate riders, ages 7-16, or riders who have completed Horsemanship I camp. Riding lessons will focus on developing an independent seat, more advanced riding skills, and a more indepth study of horse management skills. This camp introduces hunt seat, western, gymkhana and dressage riding styles, as well as the opportunity to learn to drive a cart through an obstacle course. The Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District will be having a sign up period from July 2 – Aug. 3 for the Virginia Agricultural Cost-Share Program. Residents of Buckingham and Cumberland counties who are interested in financial assistance toward agricultural conservation practices, please call the Peter Francisco District office at (434) 983-7923 or visit their website at www.peterfranciscoswcd.org for more information.

The District office is located in the USDA Service Center at Sprouse’s Corner in Buckingham. Examples of some available practices are: stream exclusion fencing with alternative water systems, winter cover crops, conversion of crop fields to pasture or trees. Walk-ins are welcome; however, they recommend scheduling an appointment with staff to ensure an efficient sign up.

The next monthly Sprouse’s Corner flea market will take place on July 14 from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Vendors, crafters, farmers, junk collectors are all welcome to come sell products for a fee.
