As we continue on through the month of November, a number of church events start popping up on the calendar. Plus, it’s time for fall festivals, holiday bazaars and, let’s not forget, we’re starting to see Christmas and other holiday celebrations show up. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the community calendar.

NOVEMBER 16 

GRIEFSHARE – There will be a ‘Surviving the Holidays’ seminar for people who are grieving a loved one’s death at the Farmville United Methodist Church. The event will run on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. You can register by Nov. 7 at 434-392-4686.

PRE-MEN’S DAY SERVICE – Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold its Pre-Men’s Day Service on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. Sharon Baptist Church Male Chorus and Brother Lashaud Moore will be in concert. 

PROSPECT FUNDRAISER DINNER – The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a Baked Potato Supper on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. That’ll be held at the Prospect Firehouse, located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. The meal will include choice of baked potato or sweet potato, salad, dessert, tea and lemonade, all for a donation at the door. Options include eat in or carry out. 

NOVEMBER 17 

MEN’S DAY SERVICE – Midway Baptist Church, located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville, will hold its Men’s Day Service on Sunday, Nov. 17, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister will be Rev. Van Petty, Pastor-Elect of Tarwallet Baptist Church. 

THANKSGIVING SERVICE – Mt. Olive Baptist Church will hold a service of praise and thanksgiving on Sunday, Nov. 17 during the 11 a.m. service. The morning speaker will be Rev. Jack Chambers from the Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Sunday School will be at 10 a.m., with Thanksgiving dinner served after the morning service. 

FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – St. Andrews Baptist Church, located at 2100 Taro Road in Cullen, will hold Family & Friends Day on Sunday, Nov. 17 during the 11 a.m. worship service. The keynote speaker will be Minister Troy Walker, newly elected minister from Triumph Baptist Church. A country meal will be served afterward in the fellowship hall. 

MISSIONARY PROGRAM – High Bridge Baptist Church will hold its annual missionary program on Sunday, Nov. 17 during the 11 a.m. service. Missionaries are asked to wear white. Dinner will follow morning worship, with a Family & Friends service held in the afternoon, featuring guest preacher Rev. James Hurt Jr. of First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect. 

FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Dillwyn will celebrate Family & Friends Day on Sunday, Nov. 17 during the 11:30 a.m. service. Dinner will be served after the service. 

FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – Gravel Hill Baptist Church will hold Family & Friends Day on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Trustee Malcolm Tillerson will be the guest speaker with light refreshments afterward. Gravel Hill is located at 3357 Cutbanks Road in Pamplin. 

NOVEMBER 21 

PRE-THANKSGIVING DINNER – Midway Baptist Church will hold a pre-Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville. 

NOVEMBER 24 

ROYAL SUPREMES ANNIVERSARY – The Royal Supremes will hold their 47th anniversary celebration on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Prince Edward County High. The show starts at 3 p.m. 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – New Store Baptist Church will celebrate the second pastoral anniversary of Pastor Irma Exantus on Sunday, Nov. 24 during the 11 a.m. service. The theme will be “Leading with Love, Serving with Grace”, with a special message from Pastor Dr. Sylvain Exantus. There will be lunch served afterward in the lower level. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville. 

THANKSGIVING SERVICE – Elder James Holcomb III of Alexandria will preach at the Triumph Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 24. That will begin at 11 a.m., with dinner served after worship. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen. 

NOVEMBER 25

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 25. That will be held at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office at 100 Dominion Drive. 

NOVEMBER 26

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. That’ll take place at the Ag Building, located at 54 Administration Lane. There will be a drawing held for a holiday table runner. 

NOVEMBER 27 

COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold a community Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, along with fellowship and music. 

DECEMBER 7

PRAYER BREAKFAST – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will hold a community prayer breakfast on Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Amy Tillerson-Brown, Professor of History and the History Dept. chair at Mary Baldwin University. A freewill offering will be collected. 

CHRISTMAS SHOPPE – Payne Memorial Church will hold its annual Christmas Shoppe from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Everything will be a quarter, with free gift wrapping. Everyone receives a free raffle ticket at the door for some big prizes drawn throughout the day. There will be free food and drinks available, along with crafts and games. The church is located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland. 

DECEMBER 9 

SENIOR CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON – The annual senior Christmas luncheon will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, with a traditional holiday meal at Payne Memorial Church. That will run from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with all Cumberland County senior citizens invited to attend. 

DECEMBER 14 

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR – St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will hold a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 14. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., including crafts, baked goods, Christmas items and a Cookie Walk. 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Mercy Seat Baptist Church will celebrate Rev. Walter M. Fells’ 18th anniversary with the church on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Marvin Fields of Second Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hanover. The Worship Leader will be Rev. Reggie Dabney of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Amelia.
