The trial for a Farmville man facing numerous felonies — including abduction — has been continued to Feb. 27 in Prince Edward County Circuit Court.
Darius Rashad Jones, 18, of Farmville, was arrested on Dec. 13, 2015 for crimes committed on Dec. 9 and 10, 2015, according to court records and Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark.
Jones, who was under 18 at the time, was charged with armed robbery, armed breaking and entering, three counts of abduction, one count of use of a firearm in a felony, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit grand larceny on Dec. 9. Jones was also charged for crimes on Dec. 10, including armed breaking and entering, use of a firearm in a felony, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.
According to Clark, the incident occurred in the 13000 block of Patrick Henry Highway in Rice.
Jones was arrested on Dec. 13 for the crimes, Clark said.
The trial date is set for Feb. 27. The trial was continued from Jan. 17 due to attorney scheduling conflicts.
Jones faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for armed robbery and armed breaking and entering, 20 years for each grand larceny charge, 10 years for each abduction charge, 10 years for each conspiracy charge and eight years for both firearms charges.
If convicted, the court will consider a number of factors, Clark said, including the recommended charge for each crime and that Jones was 17-years-old at the time the crimes were committed.
