Conservationist of the Year awarded to Garnett
Jimmy Garnett of Rice, has been awarded the 2018 Conservationist of the Year Award by the Ever Green Team, a local nonprofit land trust specializing in conservation easements. Garnett is protecting over 1,200 acres by placing a conservation easement on his property that will protect against high density development while enhancing water quality, wildlife, view-sheds and natural resources. Garnett has also been a dedicated advocate for conservation easements that help both landowners and the environment. Garnett owns the Lockett House, which is an antebellum house overlooking his expansive farm. The protected farm is on the historical grounds where the Civil War Battle of Sailor’s Creek was fought in 1865.
