United in excellence indeed

A special congratulations is due to Prince Edward County High School’s varsity girls soccer team for its outstanding 2018 season. The Lady Eagles finished the year with a 14-2 overall record and won the James River District regular season championship.

Prince Edward Athletic Director Rodney Kane confirmed this finish was at least tied for the best in program history.

The record of 14-2 sounds pretty dominant by itself, and more investigation of how the Lady Eagles compiled it only supports that notion. Of Prince Edward’s 14 victories, nine of them were shutouts. Their most lopsided victory came in the first round of the Region 2A tournament. Having earned the No. 1 seed on their side of the bracket, the Lady Eagles defeated visiting No. 16 Randolph-Henry High School 9-0.

Across all of its 16 games this year, Prince Edward outscored its opponents 87-18.

A special congratulations is also due the Lady Eagles head coach, Madeline Buczek, who was named the 2018 James River District Coach of the Year for girls soccer.

Buczek provided the picture perfect example of an alum giving back to her school. The last time the Prince Edward varsity girls soccer team had won the district regular season title was 2011 — when she was a player on the team.

Now having graduated from Longwood University and preparing to begin nursing school, she will not have the time to continue coaching the Lady Eagles, but she leaves them on a historic high note.
