Carlton O. Elder

Carlton O. ElderCarlton O. Elder, born June 28, 1939, passed away peacefully on Dec. 30, at home surrounded by his loving family. 

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of almost 64 years, Mary Newman Elder; his three children, Pamela Pietrzak (John) of Virginia Beach, James Elder (Darrell), of Powhatan and Michele Morris, also of Powhatan. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Nicholas Pietrzak, Tristan Pietrzak (Diana), Morgan Day (Rick), Max Pietrzak, James Elder Jr., Sam Bradbury and Sierra Elder. He also leaves behind six great grandchildren, Richard and Benjamin Day, Noah Pietrzak, Vincent Day, Miles Pietrzak and Camilla Day. 

Carlton was born and raised in Farmville  and moved to Powhatan as a young adult. He retired from Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center after a distinguished 30-plus year career. Carlton was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved tending to his legendary vegetable gardens. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Elder; his brothers, John and Jasper Elder; his sister, Charlotte Etherton and his nephew, Johnny Ray Etherton.

Services are private.
