Kathleen ‘Kat’ Nelson Speas 

Kathleen Nelson SpeasNov. 17, 1930 – Sept. 25, 2023 

Kathleen Nelson Speas, 92, passed away Monday, Sept. 25. She was born in Cumberland to James and Ada Nelson. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School, Cartersville and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She could be seen frequently at her jobs at Safeway, Bob’s and Eddie’s grocery stores. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, William Marlie Speas; three sisters, Effie, Reba and Isabel and four brothers, Butch, Josh, Dan and Noah. 

She is survived by her son, Arthur Wayne Speas; godson, Frederick Travis and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

The family would like to thank the staff and past travel nurses at Holly Manor Nursing Home. 

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 29. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
