Carilli receives distinguished teaching award

Longtime Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) Professor of Economics and Business Tony Carilli was awarded the Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award at the Southern Economics Association meeting in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 19, according to a recent H-SC press release.

The release noted that the Kenneth G. Elzinga award annually honors one or more faculty members for outstanding contributions to economics education. Officials in the release cited that nominees for the award are submitted by department chairs from across the south. The annual meeting is one of the largest regional economics conferences in the country.

Carilli was recognized by nearly 1,800 of his peers for his dynamic teaching, particularly of Economics 101, the release stated. It continued by highlighting that of Carilli’s students, many have pursued graduate studies in the field.

Officials concluded the release by noting that at the meeting this year were Hampden-Sydney professors Justin Isaacs, a 1995 H-SC graduate, and Geoffrey Lea, a 2004 H-SC grad, Radford University Professor Tom Duncan, a 2005 H-SC grad, Ferris State University Professor Alex Cartwright, a 2013 H-SC grad, and current Ph.D. students including 2014 H-SC grad Dylan DelliSanti, 2015 H-SC grad Perry Ferrell and 2016 H-SC grads John Kroencke, Adam Witham and Almantas Palubinskas. Also in attendance were fellow H-SC professors Indu Khurana, with whom senior Sean Stimpson presented research, and Trey Carson.
