The Woodland honors nurses

In honor of Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday, the World Health Organization has designated the year 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse.” The Woodland Inc. is kicking this celebration off on Nov. 14, from 1-5 p.m. at Farmville’s Historic Train Station, 510 West Third St.

Florence Nightingale

The Woodland CEO, Greg Cole said, “We recognize the value that all health care professionals — nurses, certified nursing assistants (CNA’s), registered medication aides — bring to our profession and we want to honor and celebrate them.”

Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing and the first person to visit the sick at night using a version of the modern day lantern, will be the theme of The Woodland celebration. All area nurses, CNA’s and medication aides are welcome to join in this celebration. There will be gifts — modern day lighting source — for the first 50 attendees and more. The Woodland chef will prepare hor d’oeuveres and multiple speakers will honor the nursing profession.

Cole continued, “This is an excellent way for The Woodland to honor these health care professionals in our community. We hope all of them, regardless of where or if they are employed, will join us on this day.
