Community social set
On Saturday, June 8, from 3-7 p.m., Bridging the Gap in Virginia will host the “Union Hill Community Social,” a free, fun and festive public event to introduce the solar training and Wi-Fi Community hub being planned for Buckingham County. This family-friendly event is a chance to learn more about solar energy, the upcoming Solar Training happening from June 10-14 in Buckingham, and the Wi-Fi internet connection that will be installed in Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church as a community hub.
Residents of Buckingham are encouraged to attend this open to the public social event and enjoy complimentary food, beverage and time with neighbors. The Solar Training occurring from June 10-14 has been made possible by several generous grants to Bridging the Gap In Virginia and is part of an effort to expand solar access and job training in Buckingham. The community hub will provide Wi-Fi access and computers for use on-site and will be available for use beginning June 17. The June 8 “Union Hill Community Social” is the kickoff event for both the Solar Training the community Wi-Fi hub.
From host Richard Walker, “Our goal is to provide the young people and adults of the Union Hill Community access to the global web without having to pay exorbitant telephone carrier fees from a hot spot on their mobile telephones. We also want to train and certify individuals in renewable energy and energy efficiency.”
