Ruben Edwin “Winn” Hensley, 87

JUNE 27 – Ruben Edwin “Winn” Hensley, 87, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013. He was born in Greenville, TN to the late Moncie Hare Hensley and Whorley Hensley on July 28, 1925.

Mr. Hensley was drafted by the Army in September of his senior year of high school but ran off and joined the Navy. He served his duty to his country during WWII and came home to marry Donna Hatline, the love of his life for 61 years. Mr. Hensley worked as a truck driver for Roanoke City Mills until he retired. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #968 and loved to work in his garden. His most favorite thing to grow was watermelon and boy did he love his watermelon!

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Michael A. Hensley (Freida) of Farmville; two daughters, Victoria McHenry (Charles) of Cumberland and Patricia Newcomb (Butch) of Cumberland; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Hensley, a sister, Mary Lou Foster and several half sisters and brothers.

Family will receive friends on Thursday (tonight), June 27at Puckett Funeral Home from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. with a Moose service at 6:30 p.m.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, Prospect.
