Mary Irby Giles, 83

DANVILLE, June 11 – Mary Irby Giles, 83, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville, died Sunday, June 9, 2013. Born in Pittsylvania County on September 7, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Theadie C. Irby and Mary Thacker Irby.

Mrs. Giles worked for Danville Knitting Mill and later in the Knitting Department for Dan River Inc. and was of the Baptist Faith. On June 1, 1957, she married, Morris Leslie Giles, who died on February 3, 2011.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy East and Vickie Owen, both of Danville; son, Michael Owen, and wife, Margaret, of Prospect; two brothers, James Irby of Summerfield, NC and Gordon Irby of Gretna; sister, Hazel Irby of Gretna; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by three brothers, Grady, Clifton, and Harry Irby, and a sister, Ora Farmer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12 at 2 p.m. from the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel conducted by the Rev. Jerry Flanigan. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service and at other times at the residence of her daughter Peggy East at 121 Oak Creek Drive.

The family wishes to thank the loving and caring staff of Roman Eagle Memorial Home North Wing for their compassion and care showed to their mother.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew.
