In the first bi-weekly update to the community Thursday, April 2, Buckingham County officials announced a third confirmed case of COVID-19 in the county.
To protect patient confidentiality, no further information regarding the new case was provided. The update noted that the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), which confirmed the three current cases in Buckingham as of Thursday morning, does not provide specific information on an investigation.
Buckingham County Emergency Services Manager Cody Davis said he could not confirm or deny if the third case is in any way related to the others.
Investigations and contact tracing regarding the cases are currently ongoing.
The release also noted that the region is expected to see rapid community spread of the novel coronavirus.
In an emergency meeting held Tuesday, March 31, Davis announced that the county would be distributing community updates each week, Monday and Thursday mornings, to inform citizens on new cases and important information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
