Prince Edward County High School’s varsity boys basketball team had two representatives on the 2019-20 All-James River District Second Team — seniors Isaih Dailey and Jahieam Watkins.
“I was happy for the guys and their accomplishments,” Eagles Head Coach Michael Jackson Jr. said.
He noted that Dailey has experienced similar accomplishments with baseball, adding that the senior standout is a phenomenal athlete that will do great things at the next level. Dailey has signed to play baseball for the Virginia Military Institute.
Jackson said Dailey’s ability to take over the game and just lead his team is what he thought led district coaches to select him to the second team.
“I believe if we had more victories, he would’ve been a strong candidate for first team all-district,” the coach said.
The Eagles finished 6-17 this season.
Jackson said he was extremely happy for Watkins for his all-district honor.
“The moment I met Jahieam, he told me he was ready to work hard and give it all that he has, and every day, that is what I’ve seen out of him, so I’m extremely proud of him,” the coach said.
He said Watkins’ ability to play shooting forward, power forward and center is what really stood out about him — his versatility.
“He has a knack for the ball and seems to always be around it, and I believe that is what gave him the nod, as well as his rebounding abilities,” Jackson said.
