SUFFOLK, May 21 – Bettie Lucille Dunkley, of Suffolk, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 91. She was born on May 31, 1921 in Hampden-Sydney, the daughter of the late Bessie Irene Duncan Kernodle and Joseph Morton Kernodle.
Mrs. Dunkley was a charter member of the Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church and a member of the Senior Citizens Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Kings Fork Homemaker's Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce D. Brinkley and husband, Carroll H. Brinkley; grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Blair Brinkley, Kimberly and Glenn Thompson, and Amanda and Michael Reeder; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Iva Hall and Esther Kernodle; and brother, Warren Kernodle. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, G. Owen Dunkley and daughter, Shirley Dunkley Whetstone.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at College Presbyterian Church in Hamden-Sydney, with the Reverend David Keck officiating. Burial will follow at College Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22 between 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk, and other times at the home of Joyce and Carroll Brinkley.
