Tigers win ODAC opener

Junior attackman Jake O’Brien tallied five goals and an assist to lead the Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) lacrosse team to a 16-9 win in its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener against host Shenandoah University in Winchester Saturday, March 7.
The Tigers improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
Senior Nick Arcuri earned the win in goal for H-SC, playing 58 minutes, 16 seconds and making 15 saves. Tigers junior Jake Brummett won 22 of 26 faceoffs while picking up 19 ground balls.
Contributing along with O’Brien on offense were sophomore attackman Bobby Clagett, with three goals, senior attackman Jack Hayden, with two goals and three assists, sophomore midfielder Sean Duffy, with two goals and two assists, and junior midfielder Charlie Doetzer, with two goals and two assists.
Nick Thompson and Presley Miller each scored one goal.
The Tigers stayed on the road Tuesday, March 10, when they were set to face nationally ranked No. 3 Cabrini University, the defending national champions. H-SC visits Washington and Lee University Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m.
