Tigers No. 1 in preseason ODAC golf poll

Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) has been picked first in the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Golf Coaches’ Poll, as officially released Wednesday, March 4, by the conference office.
The Tigers, ranked fourth nationally in the latest Golfstat Division III Top 25, and fifth nationally in the Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, garnered 117 points for first among the 12 conference schools.
Guilford College, ranked 14th nationally, was picked second with 113 points, ahead of defending ODAC Tournament champion Washington and Lee University (103). Bridgewater College (84) was picked fourth, followed by the University of Lynchburg (83), Randolph-Macon College (70), Ferrum College (56) and Shenandoah University (56), Emory & Henry College (37), Roanoke College (36), Virginia Wesleyan University (24) and Eastern Mennonite University (13).
Guilford was the ODAC Tournament runner-up last spring, while the Tigers finished third at the ODAC Tournament in 2019.
H-SC has five golfers ranked highly among the Golfstat national and regional individual rankings, including sophomore Hunter Martin, who is ranked 17th in NCAA Division III and eighth in the region with his 71.85 average.
Other nationally ranked Tigers are senior Adam Hade (73.54), who is 49th in DIII and 21st in the region, sophomore John Hatcher Ferguson (73.46), who is 53rd in DIII and 23rd in the region, senior Bruce Shober (73.62), who is 65th in DIII and 29th in the region, along with junior Allen Smith (77.20), who is 234th in DIII and 70th in the region.
H-SC, under the direction of reigning ODAC Coach of the Year Chad Eisele, posted one tournament win among five Top-10 and three top-three team finishes in five tourneys this past fall.
