Sallie Overton Amos is seeking the Farmville Town Council Seat representing Ward E in the Town’s general election Tuesday, May 5.

Amos seeks to fill current Ward E Councilman Jamie Davis’ seat, which will expire June 30.

Davis is not seeking reelection.

Amos, a lifelong resident of the Town of Farmville, is a 1992 graduate of Longwood College with a B.S. Degree in Social Work.

She is currently employed as a deputy chief probation officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections. Amos is a graduate of the Virginia Department of Correction’s Leadership Development Corrections Professional Program and is a certified correctional manager with the American Correctional Association.

She will retire May 1 with more than 27 years of service.

Amos has vast experience in audits, budget planning, human resources, public safety, and strategic planning. In her capacity as a deputy chief, she oversees the adherence of departmental policy and Circuit Court orders of offenders under supervision with the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Amos works closely with the Circuit Court Clerks, Commonwealth Attorneys, community services board, law enforcement agencies, and Circuit Court judges in the 10th Judicial Circuit.

Amos has always had an interest in government and being a member of town council, stemming from when her father, Otto Overton, served.

“I love my hometown and want to be a part of the continued growth,” Amos said. “The timing is perfect with my upcoming retirement as I will have time to devote to public service. Jamie Davis has done a wonderful job serving and the financial progress of our town speaks for itself during his tenure. I want the residents of Ward E to know that I will be responsible for them and will provide the best services for them for the taxes they are paying, as well as all of the residents of the Town of Farmville.”

Amos says she plans to work diligently with Mayor David Whitus and fellow council members to keep costs in check and to ensure the Town of Farmville continues to grow.

Amos and her husband, Eddie, and daughter, Mary Grace, live in Farmville. In her spare time, she enjoys watching her daughter play softball and attending UVA football games.
