Buckingham boys advance to regional semifinals

The No. 2-seeded Buckingham County High School varsity boys basketball team dispatched No. 7 Strasburg High School 61-36 in the Region 2B Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night, Feb. 25.
The Knights now advance to the regional semifinals where a victory would clinch a berth not only in the regional championship game but also the Virginia High School League Class 2 State Tournament. Buckingham will host No. 3 Stuarts Draft High School in the semifinals Friday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m.
Leading the Knights Tuesday against the Strasburg Rams was a familiar duo. Junior forward Gerry “Tae” Toney, the James River District Co-Player of the Year, contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds, and junior guard Amari Toney, an all-district first-teamer, added 12 points.
Buckingham led 19-9 after the first quarter, 33-14 at halftime and 48-30 after three quarters.
