The Fuqua School baseball team, seen here in a promotional picture for the team, won the Virginia Commonwealth Conference regular-season title last Friday with a 14-4 victory over Kenston Forest. The Falcons, winners of eight straight, are one of the hottest teams in the state entering Saturday's Virginia Commonwealth Conference Tournament semifinal game to be played on Friday at 2 p.m. at tournament host Kenston Forest. Fuqua, which finished tied for first with Tidewater Academy and Southampton Academy won the tiebreaker, and bye entering the tournament.
“We should be well-rested,” said FS head coach Ted Cunningham. “We may even have to shake off a little rust, but this is the position you really want to be in. We're playing very confident baseball right now, and hopefully, we can build on that and improve our seeding going into the State Tournament.”
Fuqua is ranked No. 3 in the latest VISBA Division III poll, and it's possible the Falcons could move into the top spot with a VCC Tournament Championship. The eight-team VISBA State Tournament will begin on Tuesday, with the top four seeds hosting games.
