Two North Carolina residents have been charged for attempting to distribute drugs and contraband to the Buckingham Correctional Center according to a release from Virginia State Police (VSP) Public Relations Director Corinne Geller.

On Aug. 25, 2019, VSP was requested by the Virginia Department of Corrections to investigate a drone that had been discovered and confiscated alongside an entrance road to the facility.

The drone had a package attached to it the release cited.

Further investigation revealed the package contained a cell phone, marijuana, and MDMA which is Methyl​enedioxy​methamphetamine, commonly known as ecstasy or molly.

According to the release Charlie M. Stevenson II, 34, of Durham, N.C., was taken into custody by North Carolina officials Thursday, Jan. 24.

Stevenson has been charged with a total of eight felony counts to include conspiracy, attempting to deliver/distribute marijuana, attempting to deliver/distribute a schedule I or II drugs, attempting to deliver illegal narcotics into a prison facility, and attempting to deliver a cell phone into a prison facility.

Stevenson is being held pending extradition to Virginia.

In addition to Stevenson, Deidra Robbins-Leary, 36, of Charlotte, N.C., has been charged with four felony counts of conspiracy related to the attempts to deliver the illegal narcotics and a cell phone.

The release cited that the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
