Join the youth book club

The Buckingham Library is calling kids ages nine to 13 who love reading to join a Youth Book Club.
The next meeting will be Jan. 31 from 4-5 p.m. Each meeting the group will talk about the book, have a snack and an activity. Pick up a copy of the book at the front desk to finish reading before the meeting.This month features the book City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab.
The library is located at 1140 Main Street in Dillwyn. This event is free.
Also join the library on Jan. 31 from noon to 2 p.m. for the weekly movie event. The featured film that day will be Learn Spanish. Bring a lunch or snack and enjoy the show.
Signups for Miss Buckingham 2020 will be Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dillwyn Firehouse. Applications can be picked up at the firehouse or on Facebook on the Dillwyn Fire Department Auxiliary page. The pageant will be held March 7 at 6 p.m. at Buckingham County High School. Tickets are available at the door the night of the event.
The Central District 4-H Volunteer Leap Into Leadership forum will be Saturday, Feb. 29 in Concord. Stay tuned for more details or call the Buckingham Extension Office at (434) 969-4261.
Towels and blankets are needed to wrap up cold critters at the local animal shelter. On a cold winter’s night, a shelter animal thanks you.
Keep those New Year’s resolutions of staying fit and getting healthy at Central Virginia Health Services in New Canton. Join the activities at the Beulah M. Wiley Fitness Center. Yoga is offered on Mondays at 6 p.m. and don’t miss Weight Watchers on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. and kickboxing at 6 p.m.
The gym is open all day for free on Wednesdays and Thursdays featuring Tai Chi at 9:30 a.m. and Rebounderz at 6 p.m. For more information, call (434) 581- 3271 extension 10601.
