The Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a fatal Appomattox County fire that claimed the life of a 24-year-old father and his 11-month-old daughter on Friday, Jan. 17.

According to a release from VSP at 3:36 a.m., the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a fire at a residence in the 18,500 block of Richmond Highway in Pamplin.

There were two adults and two children in the house at the time of the fire.

An adult female and an 11-month-old female were able to escape the house and were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The woman’s husband, 24-year-old Bradley Kidd Jr. and another 11-month-old girl, Braelynn Louise Kidd, were not able to escape.

Their remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for examination and autopsy.

According to VSP, at this stage of the investigation, the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Pamplin Volunteer Fire Chief Shane Richardson said that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Pamplin, Appomattox and Prospect Volunteer Fire Departments, along with Farmville Fire Department and the Appomattox County Rescue Squad, responded to the fire.
