Eagles shine at Fred Hardy Invitational

The Prince Edward County High School varsity boys indoor track and field team placed third out of 23 teams to score at the Fred Hardy Invitational held at Fork Union Military Academy on Saturday, Jan. 11, while the Lady Eagles placed fourth out of 20 teams to score.
For the Prince Edward boys, junior Saad Khan was first in the boys 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 28.21 seconds. Junior Hayat Khan was second in the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:59.87. Tim Slater was fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:00.08. The 4×800-meter relay team was second with a time of 9:05.91. That team was composed of Hayat and Saad Khan, Slater and sophomore Nathan Hamilton. Junior Reshaud Brown was second in the boys long jump with a 19-foot, 10 1/2-inch leap. Senior Abdul Johnson was third in the boys triple jump with a 40-9 jump.
For the Prince Edward girls, senior Makayla Morris won the girls high jump with a 5-4 leap. She also won the girls triple jump with a 33-10 jump, placed third in the girls long jump with a 15-3 3/4 result and placed fourth in the girls 55-meter hurdles by finishing in 9.37 seconds. Junior Haniyyah Johnson won the long jump with a 15-11 leap, was third in the girls 55-meter dash with a time of 7.45 seconds and was fourth in the girls shot put with a 33-2 1/2 throw. The 4×200-meter relay team was fifth with a time of 1:56.38. That relay team was composed of Morris, Johnson, senior Naomi Jones and junior Kiera Walker.
