SMALL SATURDAY BUSINESS CELEBRATION, all day presented by the merchants of Farmville Downtown Partnership. During business hours, grab a free treat from participating business in Farmville while supplies last.

DECEMBER 1

26TH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY, 11:30 a.m. for District Elder Betty Jones at The Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations. Suffragan Bishop Delmar Jackson, pastor of Abundant Grace Assembly, Roanoke, will be the guest speaker. The church is located at 1358 Sheppards Road, Farmville. All are welcome.

FARMVILLE JAYCEES CHRISTMAS PARADE, 2-3 p.m. hosted by Farmville Jaycees.

CHRISTMAS PLAY, 4 p.m. at Browns Chapel UMC, 1711 Gravel Hill Road, Dillwyn. Hear a Christmas story through “Heavenly Herold,” a mysterious visitor that brings joy to an elderly couple. Filled with humor, inspiration and the re-telling of the night Jesus was born, you will be sure to enjoy. Refreshments to follow.

HANGING OF THE GREENS, 7 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 12247 South Constitution Route, 5 miles south of Scottsville. The service will feature special music, historical narratives and seasonal hymns highlighting and celebrating the meaning of Christmas symbols and rituals. Desserts and beverages will be served in the fellowship hall after the service.

DECEMBER 2

CHRISTMAS PARTY, 6:30 p.m. of the Curdsville Community Center, 122 School Road, just off U.S. Route 15. Everyone is welcome, just bring a side dish or dessert. Santa is providing turkey, ham and dressing. The food is great and there will be holiday music.

DECEMBER 3

QUARTERLY MEETING, 6:30 p.m. of the Tuggle Neighborhood Watch at Mount Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church. Don’t forget your 2020 dues. Bring a sharable snack for our Christmas potluck. Door Prizes will be given.

LADIES ORNAMENT EXCHANGE, 7 p.m. hosted by The Women’s Ministry of Maysville Baptist Church in Buckingham Courthouse. Everyone is asked to bring a Christmas ornament to exchange. Refreshments will be served. Event will be held at the Worship Center at MBC, 13327 W. James Anderson Hwy., Buckingham C.H. For questions call (434) 969- 4657.

BEEKEEPERS DINNER, 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. The holiday dinner will be catered by Family Affair Catering, but members who would like to bring a dish are welcome to do so. Also on the agenda is elections and more info about the bee school. Anyone who has bees or is interested in bees is welcome. QUARTERLY MEETING, 7 p.m. of the Cumberland Deacons and Trustees Conference at New Site Baptist Church. Deacons and Trustees of member churches and their members are urged to attend.

DECEMBER 6

CHRISTMAS CAMP OPEN HOUSE, 4-7 p.m. at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center. Bring your whole family and come see the historic cabins decorated for Christmas and support your local 4-H office in the cabin decorating contest. Enjoy a bonfire, hay rides and games. S’MORES, COCOA AND CRAFTS, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Enjoy hot chocolate by the bonfire make an ornament or holiday craft. A donation is suggested to support the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park.

DECEMBER 7

COMMUNITY PRAYER BREAKFAST, 8 a.m. at Jericho Baptist Church. Prayer, songs and testimony followed by an old fashioned country style breakfast and then the preached word by the Rev. Hilda Foster of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. The Anointed voices will render songs. Everyone is welcome. Jericho Baptist Church is located on the corner of Hill and Franklin Streets, Farmville. The Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, III is the Pastor.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA, 8:30-10:30 a.m. hosted by the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary at the firehouse, 2145 Cumberland Road. Adults are welcome. Breakfast will be pancakes, fried apples, juice, milk and coffee. Donate at the door to support the Fire Department.

SILENT NIGHT, 2-7 p.m. at White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue, 1688 Burkes Tavern Road, Burkeville. Spend some time with rescued horses and enjoy refreshments, fill horse stocking, pony rides and entertainment. Admission is free.

8TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY BENEFIT, 7-11 p.m. sponsored by Haley Auto Mall, Farmville at Fuqua Lower School to support the Southside SPCA. There will be silent and live auctions, Southbound band, cocktail hour, appetizers and dancing. Dress is casual, 21 and older only. Come out and support this great cause.

HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS AT MULBERRY HILL, 1-4 p.m. located at 2667 Mulberry Hill Road Randolph.

DECEMBER 8

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Appomattox Court House. Walk through the historic village decorated with local greenery, then warm up in the park visitor center with cookies, holiday crafts and a visit with Santa Claus dressed in his Civil War Era suit.

8TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY DONATION DRIVE, 1-6 p.m. sponsored by Haley Auto Mall, Farmville at Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Free community-wide family-friendly day of holiday fun will include raffles, silent auction, holiday pet portraits with Santa and Mrs. Cause.

CUMBERLAND CHRISTMAS PARADE, 2 p.m. in the village of Cumberland Court House. Applications may be picked up in the entrance of the Cumberland Office Building, NAPA from Kevin Ingle, Cumberland Visitor’s Center & Museum (old clerk’s office) or email barbmein@aol.com and we will attach an application to your email in return or call (804) 492-3348 and leave your address and we will mail you one.

CONCERT, 3 p.m. of the Commonwealth Chorale will present Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria at Farmville United Methodist Church, 212 High Street. The concert is free and the community is welcome.

FALL CONCERT SERIES, 3-5 p.m. at Farmville United Methodist Church, Farmville presented by The Commonwealth Chorale of Virginia.

SANTA AND PANCAKE SUPPER, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. A donation is suggested with proceeds to benefit the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park.

DECEMBER 11

SHARE THE LOVE EVENT. Deadline to donate. Help Piedmont Senior Resources (PSR) celebrate their 2019 Subaru Share the Love event by donating items for the older adults. Donations needed include, tooth brushes/paste, shampoo, soap, washcloths, lotions, deodorant, laundry detergent, toilet paper, etc. Items can be delivered to PSR, 1413 S. Main St., Farmville.

DECEMBER 13

CRAFT AND BAKE SALE, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. hosted by the UMW of Farmville United Methodist Church at 212 High St., in the church basement social hall (use Randolph Street entrance). OPEN HOUSE, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District office located in the USDA Building at Sprouse’s Corner, 16842 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham. The District serves residents of Buckingham and Cumberland counties. Light refreshments will be served. NRCS, FSA and other cooperating agencies will participate as well. Come learn about the services available to the community.
