The Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer planning committee will hold the Annual Day of Prayer on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the First Baptist Church, Dillwyn.
During the week Baptist women around the world are meeting to celebrate the Day of Prayer sponsored by the Women’s Department of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). Every community throughout the world is called upon to come together to pray, give and reflect on the struggles of women and children around the world.
The Buckingham community is excited because this year they will be sponsoring a prayer brunch instead of the usual evening program. Attendees representing over 50 churches in the area will pray, conduct Bible study workshops and plan prevention activities in an attempt to meet the needs of women and children around the world.
Jordan Miles, guest speaker, will bring information on prevention. The Buckingham
Community Chorus under the direction of Joseph Scruggs will provide the music.
We will be concluding our five year theme, “Arise, Shine,” no matter what our physical condition is, nor where we are on our spiritual pilgrimage, we can all rise to do more in God’s service” says Raquel Contreras, former president of the BWA Women’s Department.
During the week the seven Continental Unions, representing 238 national Baptist women’s organizations from 135 countries that make up the Women’s Department of the Baptist World Alliance, will conduct prayer workshops, conferences and other events to mark the Day of Prayer.
The Buckingham women welcome all to attend their first Prayer Brunch on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. A delicious brunch will be served. The program will take place at the First Baptist Church of Dillwyn and is sponsored by area Baptist churches. There is no charge for attendance and persons of all faiths are welcome to attend and participate.
