Buckingham County Emergency Management Coordinator Cody Davis stood before the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors (BOS) at its monthly meeting on Oct. 15 to announce that the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) has awarded a $12,000 grant to make repairs to the county’s fire training facility.
According to Davis, an inspection is done every five years on the fire training facility, also known as the burn building. Grants are awarded on a case by case basis.
“The burn building is a fire training facility that is utilized by the Buckingham County fire departments,” Davis said in an interview with The Herald Oct. 16. “And also, our neighbouring counties will utilize it as well to conduct live fire training, so, to simulate house fires and things like that. It’s located just west of the courthouse area here in Buckingham County.”
Davis added that the grant will allow for repairs to the burn building’s brick and mortar as well as its exterior stairways. He also stated that the grant will allow for repair to the thermal barrier protection and heat monitoring systems.
The board voted unanimously to approve the VDFP’s grant for the burn building.
