Sailor's Creek Park To Reduce Visitation Hours

Published 3:52 pm Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will reduce public visitation hours, due to a reduction in staff availability. The changes go into effect April 1 until further notice. The new public operating hours for the Visitor Center will be Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. The center will be closed to the public on Mondays. The new Hillsman House public visitation schedule is Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sundays, Noon to 5 p.m. Hillsman House will not be open on Thursdays.

The purpose of Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is to preserve the cultural landscape as it was in 1865, and to provide the historic setting to tell the story of the last major battle of the Civil War in Virginia before the surrender of Robert E. Lee's Army at Appomattox Courthouse, and its impact on the citizens of Southside Virginia.
