Fall festivals and community events

Cruise into the Christian Outreach Thrift Store on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for a fun community event. The car show will feature all makes and models of trucks, cars and motorcycles. Get a free lunch and car show entrants will enter a prize drawing. Some door prizes will also be awarded, including gift cards, car cleaning supplies, and more. Other activities throughout the day will also take place, including music, a bake sale and hot dog lunch with chips and drinks, as well as a super sale inside the store. Bring a non-perishable food item and take 10% off your purchase. All profits will go to help families in need in this community. The location is 23878 North James Madison Highway, Dillwyn. Look for the big blue barn.
The Buckingham County Public Library has some exciting activities on the horizon. Have fun decorating a pumpkin on Saturday, Oct. 19, followed by a contest to see who did the best job. Then join them on Oct. 20-25 at 2 p.m. for the movie, “It’s a great pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” The library is located at 1140 Main Street in Dillwyn.
The Maysville Baptist Fall Fest will be held at the Maxey Farm at 93 Village Lane in Buckingham Courthouse on Saturday, at 5 p.m. This year’s event will feature a bounce house and treat bags for every child in attendance. There will also be a homestyle meal served, along with popcorn, hayrides, live music by Jason Burton, corn hole and much more. This is a free event and everyone is welcome.
Interested in joining a 4-H Club? The Buckingham 4-H Livestock Club is for youth ages nine-19 with an interest in sheep, pigs, cattle and goats. Youth learn about the animals during club meetings. Many of the club members also show animals in the Piedmont Area Jr. Livestock Show, but this is not a requirement for club membership. Club leaders are Diane McLain and Kelly Snoddy. On Oct. 19, beginning at 4 p.m., the Prospect Area Church Association will have a soup and sandwich dinner and worship service at Concord Baptist Church’s Focus Center, located at the intersection of Francisco and Deer Run Roads. All are welcome to attend.
Join Straight Street for the Unity with the Community event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 19 at 1174 South Constitution Road, Dillwyn. Come to the Carter G. Woodson complex and walk down Route 20 to the Straight Street Building. Enjoy bouncy houses, food and retail vendors, face painting, girl scouting exposure, and horseback rides. The local Fire and Rescue Departments, along with the County Police Department, are partnering with this event and doing “Ident-a-Kid.” For more information, contact (804) 350-4029.
Rabies vaccination clinic will be offered on Saturday, from 10 a.m.-noon at The BARN located at 11851 West James Anderson Highway, Buckingham. Dr. Bryan Auten, Slate River Veterinary Clinic, is in charge.
