MOW Names Board For 2013

Meals on Wheels (MOW), Prince Edward County, begins its 12th year with enthusiasm and plans for another successful year. This year's Board of Directors includes: Joyce Eggleston, Becky Fisher, Cheryl Gee, Becky Kelly, Frank Lacey, Maurice Maxwell (treasurer), Kerby Moore, Bob Murray, Jane Schirmer, Bertha Shepperson (secretary), Jeff Smith (chairman), Sarah Stokes, Terri Atkins Wilson, and Billy Womack. Dave Gibson, CENTRA Nutrition Services Operations manager serves as an ex-officio member.
In 2012, MOW served 12,000 meals to 107 clients via the dedication and compassion of 68 regular and substitute volunteer drivers. Twenty clients have been served for five-plus years, allowing them to remain independently in their homes. Twenty-three of the 68 volunteers have been driving for ten-plus years, indicating unsurpassed dedication and commitment to the MOW mission.
Meals on Wheels receives no federal or state funding, and is dependent on a few private grants, donations, and fund raising events for revenue. 2013 fund raising events include:
Burger King Night: on the 1st Thursday (4-8pm) of every month, Burger King contributes 20% of its meal sales to Meals on Wheels; Farmville Wine Festival: on Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Riverside Park, MOW hosts this event for the 4th year. Public is invited to enjoy wine tasting, shopping, food and live continuous music.
