Get ready for the Fall Farm Fest on Oct. 5 to be held at the Historical Village at Lee Wayside (84 Lee Wayside Village) starting at 10 a.m. going through 2 p.m. Come see live animals, including sheep, goats, cows, horses and rabbits, to name a few; farm equipment, hear live music and enjoy good food, like hamburgers, bratwurst, fish fry, pork skins and funnel cakes. There will also be buggy rides, arts and crafts, exhibits, gold prospectors and a kids’ area too. The county public library will also have a table there for farm crafts and free books. The Buckingham County Public Library is hosting a fall tree painting night on Friday, Oct. 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Join them on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 2-4 p.m. for fun with Legos. The library is located at 1140 Main St. in Dillwyn.
Learn basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, food safety, and nutrition information while preparing a dish of food to take home at this Fun with Foods program provided through the Buckingham Extension Office. Due to limited oven space, most dishes will need to be baked after getting home. This program is for youth ages eight and up and will be held at the Buckingham Agriculture Center from 3:40-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Participation is limited. For those interested in additional cooking activities, there will be an opportunity to join a 4-H Food Challenge team in January 2020, with after-school practice sessions in January and February and contests in March and April. The Food Challenge prerequisite is having previously participated in Food Challenge, Fun with Foods, or 4-H Foodies Day Camp. Celebrate National 4-H Week and the National 4-H Youth Science Day on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Buckingham Agriculture Center from 3:40-5 p.m. for the 4-H Mad Science Workshop. The Buckingham County Democratic Committee is holding a rally on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The event featuring “Getting Involved in 2019 to gear up for 2020” will take place at Ellis Acres Memorial Park, 245 Camden St., Dillwyn. Come out and meet state and local candidates running for office. Food, drinks, and games will be provided.
Third Liberty Baptist Church is having a community fun day on Saturday, from noon-5 p.m. Enjoy good food, fellowship, singing, dodgeball, kickball, basketball, games, bingo, sack races, cake walk and much more. Rain date is Oct 12. Sunday service on Sept. 29 will be outside at 2244 C.G. Woodson Road, New Canton. All are welcome.
Boy Scout Troop 1817G is holding a car wash and bake sale on Saturday, at 9 a.m. Come to Advance Auto Parts in Dillwyn to get your car spruced up and some yummy baked goods for your sweet tooth.
