The day’s schedule included a parade down Main Street, various competitions showcasing the members’ firefighting skills, a memorial service for fallen department members and a banquet at The Fishin’ Pig.
According to Curtis Carter, SVVFA president and member of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Dept., “They’ve been holding the convention since about ’57 or ’58. We’ve been doing it ever since, just to get together and have good meetings, good competition, renew old friendships, create new friendships, and learn some new firefighting techniques every once in a while.”
