Sorority presents honors

The Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® presented its annual Local Citizen of the Year Award to two recipients for their outstanding contributions to their communities. The awards were presented to Dr. Daisy Hicks and Camre Johnson.
Hicks is the superintendent of Buckingham County Public Schools. She has held several positions in Cumberland County, Brunswick County, Nottoway County, Prince Edward County, Buckingham County and Amelia County Public Schools. She has also worked in the Virginia Department of Corrections where she became inspired to pursue her career in education. She is very dedicated to the young people of Buckingham County and is very interested in their future.
Johnson is employed as the State Commonwealth Regional Council Planner in Farmville where he works with surrounding counties to find better ways to use state money on different projects and with development.
Johnson also spends time as a mentor and assists in coaching the Buckingham County High School football team. He is also a role model for the youth of the area.
