The Old Dominion Historical Fire Society (ODHFS) will display antique firefighting equipment at Wilck’s Lake Island Park, 1623 W. Third St., Farmville, on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Adults and children alike will marvel at the historic fire equipment assembled for this event. The 2019 statewide “muster” will be the fifth consecutive year that the society has displayed antique equipment in Farmville. Antiques will come from across the Commonwealth to participate in this event. According to Floyd Greene, Central Region director for ODHFS and lead organizer for the event “Our muster in Farmville this year promises to be the biggest display of antique fire equipment ever in this part of Virginia. Our muster in 2018 brought out more than two dozen antiques, and we are expecting more units this year.”
Fire equipment dating from before the Civil War will be on display. Many of the motorized fire engines may pump water from the lake during the day. Members of ODHFS will be on hand to answer questions and provide the public with the opportunity to witness “firsthand” antiques and learn the role that such equipment has played in fire service history.
The event is free.
