Longwood University hosted a breakfast for community leaders on Aug. 29 in which those in attendance learned about the latest happenings at the university.

During the event Longwood President W. Taylor Reveley IV, addressed the crowd noting the University recently completed renovation of Frazer dorm.

“All sorts of things are popping up and looking really wonderful,” said Reveley “Frazier the high-rise is done and now probably is the thing that catches the eye most.”

Reveley also noted that the Curry dorm is currently under renovations and is expected to be completed for incoming freshman next fall. “It is pretty amazing to think that a project that scale will move that quickly.”

Reveley spoke of the new admissions building located on High Street saying that it will be finished and open in about six weeks.

There is also a new academic building under construction on campus located behind French. “That will be ready for use this time next fall,” Reveley added.

Also during his address, the president pointed out the original flooring from the Cunningham buildings was used in the new Upchurch Student Center.

President Reveley also took questions from the crowd answering Bridget Flannagan’s question concerning online programs and if Longwood had plans to expand.

Currently, the University offers its MBA program online and several hybrid summer classes.

“ I do think that the classic residential model of college is an important thing and that’s something that Longwood will always do our best to really support,” said Reveley. “But online education is a really powerful tool that is more and more prevalent in the world.”

Raver continued to say that they are looking at possibly expanding several graduate programs.

Another question was raised about the vacant building that formerly housed the universities book store and Barnes and Noble.

Reveley did not go into details but said, “We have some big dreams … but stay tuned on that.”
