Beginning Aug. 10, Pinkalicious: The Exhibition — The Colorlicious World of Victoria Kann is a rainbowtastic exhibition of color, adventure and discovery set to be on display at the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA).
This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Virginia Children’s Book Festival.
Victoria Kann is the award-winning illustrator and author of the picture book series featuring the whimsical and effervescent character, Pinkalicious that is currently featured on PBS Kids.
“The story of Pinkalicious was inspired by my daughters who love cupcakes and the color pink and never seem to get enough of either one,” she said. “I wrote it as an April Fools’ joke and sent it to my friends and family, telling everyone that my daughter had turned pink after eating too many pink cupcakes. Some folks who knew just how much my daughter loved the color pink and pink cupcakes were very, very concerned.”
Kann also is credited for the illustration of Goldilicious, Silverlicious, Emeraldalicious, Aqualicious and Peterrific which also airs on PBS Kids.
Kann started her art career as an editorial illustrator for several publications, including Businessweek, Harper’s Magazine, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Time.
According to Kann, once she became a mother, and as she watched her daughters learn and grow, her art moved into making children’s books about magic, wonder and courage.
The exhibit will be on display at LCVA until Nov. 3.
