Longwood’s initial-licensure teacher-preparation programs have been re-accredited through 2026 by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

“This determination is further demonstration of the quality of our teacher-preparation programs,” said Dr. Lara Fergeson, provost and vice president for academic affairs, in making the announcement at the end of May.

Longwood is one of more than 230 institutions that have received CAEP accreditation. “These institutions meet high standards so that their students receive an education that prepares them to succeed in a diverse range of classrooms after they graduate,” said Dr. Christopher A. Koch, CAEP president.

Longwood’s teacher-preparation programs had been accredited for many years by NCATE, which merged in 2016 with another organization (TEAC) to form CAEP, now the sole nationally recognized accrediting body for educator preparation. Accreditation for Longwood’s teacher preparation programs is now under the direction of Dr. Gena Southall, executive director for teacher preparation.
