Longwood University men’s tennis phenom Amadeo Blasco has been invited to play in the prestigious Oracle ITA Masters tournament hosted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, on Sept. 26-29, a recent Longwood athletics press release cited.
Officials noted in the release that Blasco will be one of just 32 players competing in the tournament, which is an annual showdown comprised of some of the top college players in the nation. The three-time All-Big South first-team selection and catalyst of the turnaround of the Lancer men’s tennis program since his freshman year, Blasco will compete in both the tournament’s single-elimination singles and single-elimination mixed doubles brackets.
Blasco is the first Longwood player to be invited to the Oracle ITA Masters, earning that invitation on the strength of a career that has seen him earn national rankings in back-to-back seasons and continue to knock down nearly every record in Longwood tennis history, the release stated.
A native of Valencia, Spain, Blaco’s invitation to the national ITA tournament is the latest accolade in his decorated career, officials said in the release. With a career singles record of 74-47, producing a 81.3 winning percentage, and a doubles mark of 62-22, translating to a 73.8 winning percentage, he is already Longwood’s all-time leader in career singles winning percentage, career doubles wins, career doubles winning percentage, single-season wins (30), single-season winning percentage (85.7) and single-season doubles wins (22).
