Janiya Medley, a rising senior at Amelia County High School, participated in the 73rd annual Virginia Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program, which was held at Longwood University. She was sponsored by the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

The program is designed to encourage the participants’ interest in government, their education, relationships and service to their communities. They also learn about government procedures and assume leadership roles.

Janiya learned about the government structure and enjoyed meeting other young ladies from across the state. Various classes were held, which included information on the preparation for job interviews, managing stress and basic parliamentary procedures.

Janiya is the daughter of Eric and Dr. Jan Medley.
