Giddy up on over to Vacation Bible School with Bethlehem Baptist Church at 393 Winfrey Inez Road in Dillwyn. Kickoff begins July 14 at 6 p.m. with games, dinner and registration. The fun begins on Monday, July 15-19, from 6-8:30 p.m. Nursery available and classes for adults will be held.
Buckingham Bee Club meets every third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Buckingham Agriculture Center. New beekeepers and experienced alike are welcome to share ideas, learn new techniques and network with other “beeks” from Buckingham and surrounding counties. Garden Tips and Topics, conducted by Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners, is held in Buckingham and sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension. Come out on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. to the Buckingham Agriculture Center and learn how to make the most of the space and time you have for gardening. From the soil up, you will explore the best plants for size of your space, efficient, watering, feeding for healthy growth, pest management, harvesting and storing the crop. Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Dates remaining this year include Aug. 10, Sept. 14, and Oct. 12. No charge and no sign up required. Have fun at the Sawtelle School of Performing Arts & Awareness year-round classes held at the Buckingham Arts Center. Learn domestic arts, Reiki, meditation, circle of friends gathering, music lessons (piano and guitar), creative dance (which includes ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance), and exercise classes incorporating aerobics, yoga and pilates. Yoga classes are offered year-round at the Buckingham Agricultural Building on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Instructor is Hope Mell, and the program is designed for ages 12 to adult. You will need a yoga mat, large towel or blanket. This class reduces stress and increases health. Yoga will focus on postures, relaxation, breath control and mental concentration. Yoga improves flexibility, strength and balance. Wear loose-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement. No jeans. “Big League Dreams” baseball instruction is available by appointment for hitting and pitching fundamentals. The Buckingham County Youth League will conclude its season with the World Series on July 26 at Ruston, Louisiana. On Aug. 3, the boys finish the minor and majors in Louisiana. Good luck to Buckingham youth league.
