The Buckingham County Majors all-star team experienced a strong start to the 2019 Dixie Youth Baseball Major League State Tournament in Victoria, but losses Saturday and Monday ended the squad’s run this summer.
Lightning and then rain led to a delay in Buckingham’s Sunday elimination game against the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) all-star team, with PEFYA leading 9-5 in the fifth inning. PEFYA hung on Monday evening to win by that score.
On Saturday, Buckingham suffered a tough 5-4 loss in seven innings against the Prince George all-star team.
“First inning we had a few errors, but we tightened it up after that,” Buckingham Majors Manager Troy Wooten said.
The Buckingham boys found themselves in a 3-0 hole after the first inning but recovered to take a 4-3 lead.
In a strong opening statement Friday, the Buckingham All-Stars defeated the host team, the Lunenburg all-star squad, 5-1.
