A contractor is clearing remaining diesel fuel from an accident between a tractor-trailer and pickup truck that occurred over the weekend.
Trey Pyle, chief of Meherrin Fire & Rescue, said the accident occurred Friday, 3 p.m., at the 2500 block of Patrick Henry Highway in Meherrin. The tractor-trailer stopped a quarter of a mile further west of the block.
“In the accident, the tractor-trailer diesel tank ruptured,” Pyle said, “and there was approximately 200-300 gallons of diesel fuel spilled.”
Pyle said first responders controlled and contained the fuel spill at the scene.
He said there were no injuries to anyone in the tractor-trailer or pickup truck, and he said there was minor damage to both vehicles. Pyle said he did not know the cause of the accident.
Pyle said it would be the responsibility of the trucking company to address the remaining fuel spilled. He said the company hired a private contractor to clean up the rest of the area.
