The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Angels all-star team defeated the Blackstone All-Stars 15-2 in three innings Monday to put itself in position to play Tuesday for the 2019 Dixie Softball Angels District 1 Tournament championship in South Hill.
The PEFYA Angels were set to take on the Crewe-Burkeville all-star team Tuesday at 6 p.m. for the district title and the right to advance to the 2019 Dixie Softball Angels State Tournament.
Prince Edward-Farmville Manager David Schmidt reflected on his team’s victory Monday, noting it was nothing like a blowout early on.
“The first inning was pretty close,” he said. “They went up 1-0 on the first inning. And then after that we had Kelly Womack on the mound. She pitched the first two innings for us, and then her pitching was great, and then after the first inning, our bats came to life, and we started hitting.”
The PEFYA Angels scored 13 runs in the top of the third inning.
Their defense ensured a mercy rule-shortened game by helping to preserve a lead of at least 10 runs after three innings.
Schmidt praised the defensive play of shortstop Evelyn Noraas, third baseman Kendall Snead and second baseman Kenna Schmidt.
For consistency on offense, the manager highlighted Lola Kimmel, LottieMae Hazlegrove, Kenna Schmidt, Noraas and Snead.
The 3-1 PEFYA Angels also beat the Lunenburg and Clarksville All-Stars.
