Buckingham Extension office is hosting a 4-H Leadership Institute overnight camp from July 15-18. Three days will be spent on the campus of Virginia State University (VSU) exploring leadership with 4-H’ers from around the state. Transportation is not provided. The program is designed for ages 11 to 13. For more information call (434) 969-4261.
Buckingham Fundamental Free Football Camp will be held at the Buckingham County High School Track Field on July 15-16 from 6-7:30 p.m. This camp is designed for ages 5-13. To register, visit www.buckinghamrec.net or www.buckinghamcountyva.org.
Swimming lessons will be held at the Nazarene Campground (across from Buckingham Middle School) from July 8-12, sponsored by Buckingham Parks and Recreation. Lessons for ages 2-3 will be held from 6-6:30 p.m., ages 4-5 will be held 6:30-7 p.m., ages 6-9 will be held from 7-7:30 p.m., and ages 10-12 will be held from 7:30-8 p.m. Children will be assessed on basic water treading abilities and from there will be assisted by instructors on developing motor skills in the water that include: proper strokes (no doggy paddles, water wings or floaties), kicking, floating, breathing, buoyancy and treading. Advanced classes will focus on underwater techniques, diving and stroke development. Deadline to register is July 3. Pastor Kippy Lundy, Lady Cynthia Lundy and the Third Liberty Baptist Church congregation welcome you to help celebrate the church’s 154th Church Anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. Patrick Bland with the theme of transitioning to the next level. All are welcome.
On Saturday, June 29, at 3 p.m., the Buckingham Library will host Science Tellers: Aliens. Don’t miss this action-packed, educational alien adventure using science experiments for special effects. It’s totally out of this world. Science Tellers will perform their show about aliens, then explain the science experiments and let kids try them out.
