James Edward Moore went home on May 12, 2019. He was 81 years old.
He was one of the best floor men in the area. He built his own home with the help of a few good friends. He and his friend Billy built a late model stock car that they raced in Virginia and Northern N.C. He was a hardworking, kind and loving man. He loved cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, working and being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Luther Moore and Eliza Eggelston, his step-father George Eggleston, 2 sisters; Ruth Reece, Jean Matthews, 3 step-brothers; Jamie, Paul, Reggie and 1 step-sister Ruby.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley Anderson Moore, his daughter Barbara Hodges of Farmville, his son Luther Scott Moore (Sharon) of Alcoa, TN, his sisters; Betty Perkins of Farmville, Velma Webb (Wayne) of Pensacola, FL, 5 grandchildren; Elizabeth Hodges, David Hodges, Jessica Castro-Roberts, Nick Moore, Ryan Moore, sister-in-law’s Thelma, Minnie, Dot and Matilda Anderson, cousins, nieces, nephews, his Worsham Baptist Church family, his PACE family and his aids Nancy, Jack and Janice Dempsey.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 16, 11 a.m. in Worsham Baptist Church with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
