Storms possible for afternoon, evening

Thunderstorms, gusty winds and rainfall forecast to total more than an inch are on the forecast for the region starting Monday afternoon into the evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield estimates that a chance of showers and a thunderstorm is forecast after 2 p.m. for Prince Edward and Cumberland counties. Rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are projected, according to NWS, with higher amounts possible during the thunderstorms.

“Any thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of producing gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall,” the NWS cited.

Buckingham County, and potentially surrounding counties, could see wind gusts as high as 21 miles per hour during the storms, according to the NWS in Blacksburg.

Into Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are forecast. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible, according to NWS.

Some fog may potentially occur into early Tuesday morning for Buckingham and surrounding counties, according to the NWS in Blacksburg.
