January 24 – “Remember to wear a smile, it increases your face value.”

Birthdays are always a happy occasion, on Saturday Jan. 19 William Amos celebrated his 76th birthday with his wife, Sue others who came by to wish him a Happy Birthday were, Vickie Johns of Amelia, Jason Covington of Farmville, and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Newcomb and Travis of Pamplin.

Celebrating a birthday Jan. 22 was Rhonda S. Rowland; she received many Happy Birthday wishes.

Local Hampden – Sydney basketball fans have been attending some of the out of town games. Last week, they attended the Lynchburg College game. This week, many have plans to attend the Randolph College/Hampden- Sydney game. Both are ODAC conference games.

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Fulcher, Emily and Jonathan, Mary Hayes, and Mr. and Mrs. John Fulcher traveled to Lynchburg on Sunday night to help Taylor Fulcher celebrate her 21st birthday. They had dinner at Cracker Barrel.

Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish for the small group at Faith Bible Fellowship. Attending were Mrs. Hilde Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Al Quinlan, Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Fehr.

Mrs. Brenda Walton of Powhatan and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast at the Cumberland Restaurant on Tuesday morning.

Brianna, Charles and Christina Smith had dinner at the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith Friday evening. The children's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith, Sr. went out for dinner to celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary.

Last Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton and grandson Sean traveled to Charlottesville and Ruckersville on search of a special item. They were lucky as they found what they went looking for.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows made a trip to Richmond last Friday during all that snow.

Mr. and Mrs. John Fulcher visited with his sister and niece Mrs. Mae Fulcher and Gloria F. Rosser last Saturday night.

Mrs. Flora Bolt enjoyed having her great-granddaughter, Haley Murdock spend Saturday with her. Haley enjoyed playing with her cousin, Joshua Bolt in the snow and with her two month old cousin, Jacob Bolt inside.

On Jan. 20 following church Mrs. Flora Bolt, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bolt, granddaughters Haley and Payden and their daughter Ashley Paquette went to lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bolt; also joining them were Page Bolt, Christopher Bolt, Ms. Deborah Warner and daughter Emma Grace. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bolt prepared a delicious lunch for all.

Classmates Flora Bolt, Martha Wilson Thompson and Shirley Newcomb Fowlker of Burkeville of Farmville High School met at Merk's Place Jan. 21 for lunch and a planning meeting. They composed a letter to be sent to classmates for the classes of 1947, 1948, and 1949 to a school reunion to be held June 15. This reunion is for anyone who ever attended Farmville High School.

The afternoon of Jan. 21 Mrs. Flora Bolt visited the shut-ins at Brookview: John Varner, Ruth Southall, Dot Shumaker, Page Johnson and Grace Taylor. Also visiting was John Varner's son John Varner, Jr. of Washington D.C., and Mrs. Taylor's daughter Jean.

Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; Howard Campbell, Peggy Kelsey, Betty Noblin, William Whitter and Debbie Goodrick.

Friends are extending their sincere sympathy to Ms. Courtney Winslow on the death of her mother.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Katherine Todd will be with them this week.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
