Two house fires occurred within more than 12 hours of one another in Cumberland and Buckingham, resulting in multiple fire departments responding to the incidents, according to firefighters in the two counties.
The first fire occurred at the 2000 block of Union Church Road in Buckingham County Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m.
Dillwyn Fire Department Chief Jason Wharam said the cause of the fire is undetermined. He said there was a family at the residence when the fire occurred, but that the family members got out safely.
Wharam said Toga Volunteer Fire Department was first on scene. Dillwyn, Glenmore and Arvonia fire departments also responded.
Wharam said family members are currently staying at another dwelling on their property.
On Friday, Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, with Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department, Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department and
Macon District Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the 400 block of Cartersville Road.
“Units arrived to find heavy fire from the back side of the home spreading to a nearby vehicle,” officials from Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department reported on social media. The fire was under control within 30 minutes of the department’s arrival.
