Jordan Newman and Tanner Wise of the Cumberland 4-H Livestock Judging Team competed against other teams March 2 at the 2019 Virginia Tech Block and Bridle Club’s Livestock Judging Contest. 4-H and FFA teams from throughout Virginia competed in this day long competition where they placed classes of: Spring Simmental Heifers, Fall Commercial Bred Heifers, Market Steers, Market Hogs, Crossbred Breeding Gilts, Breeding Ewes, Wether Dams, and Breeding Does.

Jordan and Tanner also had to each present oral reasons for their placings for four of these classes as well as answer a group of questions regarding two of these classes. Jordan is the son of Doug and Melissa Newman of Cartersville and he is a junior at Cumberland County High School. Tanner is the son of David and Sherri Wise of Dillwyn and he is a freshman at Buckingham County High School. Coaches for the Cumberland 4-H Livestock Judging Team are Henry Paris and Rob French.

Disciple Now (DNOW) is being held on March 29 and 30 at Concord Baptist Church, sponsored by Concord Baptist, Maysville Baptist and Bethlehem Baptist Churches, all of Buckingham. This year’s theme is IMAGO DEI (Image of God). Registration begins at 5 p.m. on March 29 and the program concludes at 7:30 p.m. on March 30.

Youth will enjoy excellent worship and teaching during each of the main worship sessions. There will be new and exciting games and activities to be introduced this year, and prizes will be better than ever. Everyone from grades six to 12 are welcome to attend. Local Buckingham author, G. Van Wallace will be at Barnes and Noble at Longwood (corner of Main and Third) in Farmville, Saturday from 1–3 p.m. for a book signing.
