January 17 – “A thing done right means less trouble tomorrow.”

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary held their annual Holiday celebration Jan. 13 at the Fire House. Howard Campbell, president, gave a summary of the activities during 2012. They had answered 96 calls during the year with one firefighter answering all 96 calls, Chandon Beiler and Howard Campbell responding to 82 calls. A plaque was presented to the Fireman of the Year, for all he does for the fire department and the community, the award went to Al Mason for 2012. Congratulation to Al. Following a delicious meal Reggie Eggleston installed the following officers: Howard Campbell, president; Ray Foster, vice president; Lynn Fulcher, chaplain; Ben Murdock, treasurer; Al Mason, chief; Chris Morgan, assistant chief; James Redford, caption; Chandon Beiler, quartermaster; Will Lewis, assistant quartermaster; and James Boettcher, property sergeant. Eggleston then installed the Auxiliary officers: Linda Franklin, president; Wayne East, vice president; Rosa Thomas, secretary; Phyllis Mason, treasurer; and Karen Fulcher, historian.

A belated Happy Birthday is wished to Carol Ann Reynolds, her birthday was Jan. 15.

A belated Happy Anniversary is wished to Mr. and Mrs. Riley Bowman their anniversary was Jan. 13.

Four sisters got together at a local restaurant last Wednesday to exchange Christmas gifts. Those present were Mrs. Mildred Bales from Hampton, Polly Duncan from Columbia, Lena Rose Huddleston and Peggy Kelsey from the area. Others present were: Tommy Huddleston from Cumberland; Kim Shumaker, Debra Sue Shumaker, from Prospect; Chrystal and Josh Buchioni from Williamsburg and Phyllis Jones from South Boston.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith enjoyed having dinner at Shogun on Friday evening in celebration of Mr. Smith's birthday. He was surprised when their friends Mr. and Mrs. Al Quinlan and Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger where awaiting the Smith's arrival at the restaurant.

Mrs. Flora Bolt visited Mrs. Edna Woodson at Trinity Missions on Thursday. William Woodson was also visiting his wife Edna.

Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; Howard Campbell, Frances Moore, Betty Meadows, Gail George and Julian Covington.

Friends and neighbors are expending their sincere sympathy to the family of Frances Johns.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Katherine Todd will be with them this week.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
